Feels good, doesn’t it?
Have you ever sent out an email to a group of people and received replies with ideas and suggestions that built upon your own?
Gotta love that, right?
You built a connection with these people and they wanted to make sure you knew they were listening.
It’s why we do what we do. As small business owners we want to help, influence and teach people. We can help more people by having more connections.
Finding connections in today’s busy world isn’t easy. Of course we can email, comment and call someone, but it might not always create a deep connection. These are loose connections that need to be deepened.
I’m creating the 30 Day Connection Challenge during the month of November to help small business owners create connections and create a plan to deepen them.
Every connection starts off weak then builds into a strong connection as trust is earned. Connections can come in many forms, an email, Facebook like, physical address, Twitter follower, etc.
If you want people to take notice when you communicate with them then this challenge is for you. Each week we’ll create a plan that you can work through each day.
In spirit NaNoWriMo and not overthinking ways to build connections I wanted to develop this challenge. Pick one small connection to make in the morning, connect from your strengths and see what happens.
We’ll be focusing on a daily challenge to help you build your network into the powerhouse that it deserves to be.
We all get impatient. We want people to know how knowledgeable and helpful we truly are right away.
When building trust we forget to factor in the emotional scares people have endured.
It takes time, consistency and patience to earn people’s trust.
It starts with listening to people’s wants then building an emotional connection.
The best way to build trust with people who are a good fit for our businesses is to explain how we help people through great storytelling.
Over the years I’ve seen what works well and what doesn’t. I’ve done marketing campaigns, guest posting, social sharing, interviews, PPC, Twitter parties, banner ads, webinars, contests, giveaways and speeches to reach new people.
A great story builds an emotional connection. I like to think of this as an emotional domino effect.
We’ll walk through a 6-step process:
- Finding your ideal customers.
- Creating unique ways to start a connection.
- Developing a daily system.
- Measuring and improving your results.
- Deepening the Connection
- Leveraging Rewards
Once you have a path that works you can build the connections that will build your business.
Throughout this process you will receive resources that will help spur your creativity, keep track of your results and figure out how to improve on them.
At the beginning of each week we’ll create a calendar for each day of the week with a plan on building a connection with one person or a group of people.
The most important part of setting up your process is to make it work for you. If you want to add a step or include an extra detail then go right ahead.
- On Sunday (or a planning day that fits your business) you’ll take a few minutes to research who you will connect with on your calendar.
- Quickly fill out the information about why you are contacting them (Make this as simple as possible so you focus on taking action.)
- Set a time and date to contact each person.
- Celebrate that you took action after each outreach. (Check-in and let us know.)
- At the end of each week you’ll look back at what worked well and apply these techniques to the next week.
Remember to keep this process very simple, so you take action.
I want to do this together. I’ll be focusing on building my email list. You may want to focus on adding more likes to your Facebook page. We’ll cover what may be the best choice for you and how to choose your connection process.
There are many different strategies to grow your connections. We’ll cover as many as we can from emailing people who have influence over a large group of people to going out in your community to give a live presentation.
We’ll cover how to connect from a place of strength so you have a good chance at building a strong connection.
If you are interested in joining in with us then just leave a comment below.
Do you have anything you would like me to cover? Also what is the best way for us to help each other through this process?
My goal is to make it easy for people to share their ideas with each other. Let me know what you need and I’ll try to make it happen within reason.
