Why a Creating an Online Party Doesn’t Feel like Marketing

Your business depends on meeting new people. You can rely on old customers to bring in a steady income, but if you want to grow your business you need to find new people who want to love your product/service. You can do this by spending a lot of money on click advertising or you can use social media to expand your company’s brand and reach. The latter takes more time, but also builds stronger bonds.

A warning: Not every business is fit for social media. My brother is an electrician and his ROI would be very low with social media. Now that’s been said, most people need social media to get the word out about their business, especially an online business. Small business owners can’t afford to do a lot of the advertising their larger counterparts do, so they need to build relationships in other ways.

You have access to these great tools, but many small business owners don’t have the time to use them. They also don’t have the luxury not to use them.

You know you need to use these social media tools (friend me – Twitter, Google+, Facebook, LinkedIn), but it feels like work. I know, I’ve been there. The reason it feels like work is because you aren’t finding a ways to make it fun for you and the people you are connecting with.

Story Time

Once upon a time, a long time ago, I was a work happiness blogger. I tried for many months to connect with people to build my business. I tried creating products (that failed), I tried every social network known to man, I tried playing it cool, but nothing worked.

I was a frog trying to make out with cute princesses. Other bloggers gave me the virtual lemon face.

I decided to work more from my superpowers and started coaching people with their marketing. As I was helping friends try to create a social media marketing plan that actually worked I began to see the need for people to create online events that created some buzz.

That’s when the proverbial light bulb finally brightened. I was helping people have fun with their marketing.

Your Marketing

You’ve got to stop doing the marketing you hate. Yes, right now.

You aren’t going to succeed building connections with people in a way that aren’t true to how you want to build your business. You have to attract people who want to know, like and trust you. That means connecting with people in a way that doesn’t make you feel sick to your stomach.

I believe people enjoy Twitter parties to much because they are having fun while connecting with people. It’s about teaching, sharing and helping, not trying to sell just another 25 products.

You’re creating an event that gives back to people and ripples throughout the social media world.

Shareable

When you launch a product you’ve got to make the experience worth sharing. People can feel when you hate doing a certain type of marketing. So make your launches fun so it’s so much more than a “please buy my stuff” plea. You and your product becomes more sharable.

People want to tell their friends about a cool event that you created. When people share how cool you are with their friends that’s when the sales happen.

Your Turn

What do you to have fun with your marketing?
